Photography Auction Calendar, Spring 2021

After one of the most unusual years in photography auction history, the 2021 calendar of auctions has commenced earlier than usual with a retrospective sale of work by Man Ray at Christie’s Paris. Held on 2nd March, the auction brought together Man Ray’s work from the collection of Lucien and Edmonde Treillard. The auction closed with a total of 5.9 million euros. Following Christie’s lead, Sotheby’s London also decided to kicked off their photography auction calendar with a retrospective auction of Tyler Shields’ work. Running for three weeks from the end of February to last week. The results, however, have not yet been released by Sotheby’s, so keep an eye out for a future post. Sotheby’s quickly followed up their Tyler Shields sale with another photography auction: Classic Travel Photographs, which runs for two weeks. Christie’s picks up the baton today with the opening of their online Ansel Adams auction, which runs for two weeks, ending 8th April.
