Photographs from the Goldstein Collection

After a meagre offering over the first three months of the year Christie’s is going all out on photography this April with three photography-specific auctions hosted on the same day. The trio kicks off with Daydreaming: Photographs from the Goldstein Collection.

The auction brings together 69 lots from some of the most renown artists in the world such as Ansel Adams, W. Eugene Smith, Julia Margaret Cameron, Eugene Atget, Paul Strand, Alfred Stieglitz, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon and Helmut Newton, to name just a few.

The auction will be taking place on Tuesday 2nd April at New York’s Rockefeller Centre from 10 am with estimates ranging from $1,000 to $550,000.

The highest estimate goes to the infamous Dovima with Elephants by Richard Avedon (featured) – a print so well regarded it features in the top 50 most expensive photographs list and routinely sells for over half a million dollars. The print is number 10 from an edition of 50 and is estimated to sell for $350,000-$550,000.

The second highest estimate is Irving Penn’s Harlequin Dress which has an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000. While another print by Richard Avedon is expected to perform well with a portrait of Marilyn Monroe estimated to achieve $70,000 to $100,000.
