Phillips London Photographs Results

The first photography auction of the month completed on Thursday at Phillips London. Lots included work from an array of contemporary artists including Alec South (featured), Richard Learoyd and Pieter Hugo, as well as established photographers such as Irving Penn and William Eggleston.

The lot with the highest hammer price was a collection of William Eggleston prints, Dust Bells Volume II, which sold for £93,750 with an original estimate of £80,000-£120,000. This wasn’t the only collection of prints to sell at the auction, the second highest hammer price went to Mikhael Subotzky and Patrick Waterhouse’s 84 print archive Windows, Ponte City which had an estimate of £60,000-£80,000 and realised £68,750. In third was Three Wines of France, New York City by Irving Penn which realised £62,500 with an estimate of £50,000-£70,000.
