Made in Britain Results; Autumn 2019
The second of Sotheby’s photography-inclusive auctions to take place this month, Made in Britain brought together 38 photographic lots from artists such as Norman Parkinson, Lord Snowdon, Don McCullin and David Hockney. In total the auction brought in a sales total of £2,591,500 ($3,194,295).
The most expensive photograph to sell at the auction was David Hockney’s Mother, Los Angeles, December 1982: a photocollage which had an estimate of £10,000-£15,000 and saw a hammer price of £33,750.
The second most expensive photograph was Albert Watson’s Kate Moss, Marrakech (Contact), 1993 which had a estimate of £18,000-£23,000 and just pipped the top estimate by selling for £23,750.
The third most expensive photograph was Princess Diana Gives The Finger, 1998 by Alison Jackson which far out-performed its original estimate of £3,000-£4,000 to sell for £21,250.
