Christie’s Photographs Auction
After two auctions of private collections Christie’s will be hosting the first Photographs auction of the year on the same day. Taking place in New York from 2pm with 141 lots on offer, the auction brings together some truly iconic prints from masters of the craft including Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Irving Penn, Wolfgang Tillmans, William Eggleston and Henri Cartier-Bresson as well as 19 photographs from Robert Mapplethorpe that ‘span his career’.
Estimates range from $2,000 to $350,000 with Diane Arbus’s A family on their lawn one Sunday in Westchester, N.Y. 1968 taking the highest estimate at $250,000-£350,000. Paul Strand’s The Family, Luzzara, Italy, 1953 has an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000, while Peter Beard’s Elephant Family at Night at a salt lick, Aberdare Forest, 1972/2009 also has an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000.
