Christie’s MoMA Auctions
This week sees three MoMA auctions at Christies New York, two of which are taking place over this weekend (5th – 11th October 2017). The first in the series is a 35 lot auction of Henri Cartier-Bresson prints, with estimates ranging from $1,500 to $35,000. This auction is taking place online with bidding taking place over 7 days. The second auction is ‘Pictorialism into Modernism’, another online auction taking place from the 5th – 12th October, which features works by artists such as Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Steichen, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Constantin Brancusi, Man Ray, Edward Weston, Ilse Bing, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Walker Evans, and Berenice Abbott. The third auction is ‘Photographs including property from MoMA’, which is due to take place at Christie’s New York in Rockefeller Centre on 10th October, with bidding starting at 10am. There are 110 lots available from a range of practitioners including Peter Beard whose ‘Orphanes Cheetah Cubs, Mweiga, near Nyeri, Kenya, March 1968’ has the top estimate of $500,000. There’s also work by Man Ray, Ansel Adams, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Helmut Newton, David Hockney, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Robert Frank and Diane Arbus, among others.
