Christie’s; Ansel Adams and the American West
Last Thursday, Christie’s Ansel Adams and the American West auction came to a close after two weeks of online bids. The most expensive lot in the auction was Ansel’s 1960 work Moon and Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, California, which had an initial estimate of $30,000 to $50,000, but far outperformed its top estimate with a hammer price of $106,250, making it one of the most expensive sales so far this year (3rd).
The second and third most expensive lots also outperformed their top estimates with The Tetons and the Snake River, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming gaining a hammer price of $56,250 and Bridal Veil Fall, Yosemite Valley selling for $52,500, after both receiving original estimates of $20,000 to $30,000.
