Bonham’s Fine Books, Atlases, Manuscripts and Photographs Auction Results

Bonham’s hosted an auction of Fine Books, Atlases, Manuscripts and Photographs at their London Knightsbridge house on 15th November with 255 lots available.

Items included deeds of sale from 17th century America, first edition Sense and Sensibility, Domesday Book, a signed letter from Elizabeth I’s Privy Council, a 1576 bound Magna Carta edition, Brunel engineering drawings, letters signed by Napoleon Bonaparte, Horatio Nelson, Charles Darwin, Alan Turing, and others, along with antique maps, 13th century manuscripts, and other valuable documents.

Photographs included a Julia Margaret Cameron portrait of Mary Hillier with an estimate of £2,000 – £4,000, a Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) portrait of Emily Drury with an estimate of £1,000 – £1,500, and several albums of early photography of China, Japan, Persia, and India.

Charles Dodgson’s (Lewis Carroll) portrait of Emily “Emmie” Drury was the most expensive photograph to sell at £2,375, above its top estimate of £1,500.
