Christie’s Photographs Auction Results, May 2018

Christie’s first London Photographs auction of the year took place on Thursday with 85 lots on sale. The auction totalled £1,578,875 with lots from artists such as Thomas Ruff, Candida Höfer, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Robert Mapplethorpe, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Wolfgang Tillmans and Juergen Teller.

The highest priced sale was Robert Mapplethorpe’s Ken Moody and Robert Sherman, 1984 (featured) which sold for £118,750 after an original estimate of £70,000-£90,000. Nick Brandt’s Elephant Drinking, Amboseli, 2007 also surpassed its original estimate of £50,000-£70,000 to sell for £100,104. Thomas Ruff’s 17h 58m / -25 degree, 1990 sold for £75,000 after an original estimate of £50,000-£70,000.
