Christie’s Yamakawa Collection Auction Results

Last week saw the second of Christie’s dedicated photography auctions this month with The Yamakawa Collection of Twentieth Century Photographs. The auction included 42 lots from artists such as Robert Frank, Ansel Adams, and Henri Cartier-Bresson with many lots including multiple images from artists. The auction closed with a sales total of $1,683,375.

The lot with the highest hammer price went to a box of ten photographs by Diane Arbus which out performed its original estimate of $500,000-$700,000 at $792,500. The second priciest lot was Robert Frank’s Parade – Hoboken, New Jersey (featured, and below) which had an estimate of $100,000-$150,000 and realised $150,000. 

Lewis Baltz’s Candlestick Point was another lot with multiple prints available, this had an original estimate of $60,000-$80,000 but outperformed its estimate by $38,750 with a hammer price of $118,750.
