Sotheby’s Photographs Auction, October 2017
On the 5th of October 2017 Sotheby’s New York will be auctioning off a selection of diverse and historic photographs in its Photographs auction, among the collection are prints by Edward Weston, Lewis Baltz, Eugene Atget, Ansel Adams, William Eggleston, Robert Frank (including his infamous ‘New Orleans (trolley)’ photograph [see above]), Gustave Le Gray, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Mapplethorpe. All the photographs will be on show at the pre-auction exhibition in New York until the day of the auction.
This auction also includes a selection of daguerreotypes from the collection of Stanley B. Burns, MD. which make up the first 53 lots of the auction, starting at 10am. Estimates range from $1,000 for lot 41 – a 1840s daguerreotype portrait, to $500,000 for Robert Frank’s Charleston, S.C. taken in 1955.
