The first summer auction took place this week at Phillips’ New York headquarters with a topical Women In Photography auction. The auction brought together 107 lots from artists such as Dorothea Lange, Sally Mann and Cindy Sherman as well as photographs representing women from artists such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, August Sander and Steve McCurry.

The top three most expensive sales from this auction were all photographed by female artists:

The most expensive lot was the world-renown Migrant Mother portrait by Dorothea Lange which had estimated to sell for $70-$90,000 and saw a hammer price of $87,500. Coming second was an untitled image from Carrie Mae Weems’ Kitchen Table Series that far exceeded its estimate of $25-$35,000 by selling for $70,000. Finally, in third was Relevance, Supposition, Connection, Viewpoint, Evidence from Questions by Anne Collier which sold for $62,500 with an initial estimate of $50-$60,000.
