Christie’s Photographies Results, Nov
Christie’s Paris hosted a Photographies auction yesterday with 57 lots available from artists such as Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman, Ansel Adams, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe and Josef Koudelka, as well as several colour prints from contemporary artists like Marina Abramovic, Thomas Struth and Anja Niemi. At the close of sales, Christie’s made a total of €1,172,500 ($1,329,968).
The most expensive sale was Richard Avedon’s portrait of Francis Bacon which had the highest estimate of the auction at €70,000-€90,000 and sold for €87,500 ($99,251).
Thomas Struth’s Paradise 7, sold for €75,000 ($85,072) with an estimate of €40,000-€60,000, making it the most expensive colour print at the auction, while Henri Cartier-Bresson’s Seville, Espagne, 1933 sold for €65,000 ($73,729) with an original estimate of €20,000-€30,000.
Irving Penn’s Three Asaro Mudmen print (featured) realised a total of €62,500 ($70,893).
