An American Journey Auction
Scheduled to take place on the same day as Phillips’ first photography auctions of the season, Christie’s will be holding an auction of photographs from the collection of Diann G. And Thomas A. Mann.
‘An American Journey: The Diann G. And Thomas A. Mann Collection of Photographic Masterworks’ will be held at Christie’s New York headquarters over two days, beginning on Thursday 4th October with 184 lots available from artists such as Ansel Adams, Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston, Walker Evans (featured) and Dorothea Lange with estimates ranging from $2,000 to $300,000.
Christie’s announced in a press release:
An American Journey forms a comprehensive visual record of a rich period of production before World War I, through the explosive and radical period between the two great wars, and into the heady post-War period. Assembled by an assiduous couple who were moved by the power of photography, and recognized how severely photographic masterworks were undervalued. The Manns were true connoisseurs before photography collecting took off and had been fully accepted as a legitimate art form.
